2 reasons:

1. the project I am on already uses an SQL Server database. The express
version is just for the dev version on my laptop.
2. I'm very familiar with SQL Server and have a few years experience using
it (older versions though). The end result for this app will be 2 SQL
Servers that talk to each other (DTS). One sql server in an internal office
network where data is collected through an MS Access interface in the office
then data is de-normalized and DTS'd to the sql server on the same network
as the website (every night). Then I'm going to use CF to do a web based
search interface where users of the website will be able to search and get
the data.

If anyone else has an alternate suggestion, I'm happy to listen.

I have been using mysql for my sites that run on Linux with PHP but just do
basic stuff with it.

Just out of curiosity why go with SQL express when you can run mysql with no
limitations?
