Top-posting on purpose.

I don't care much for it either.  Let a troll, troll and be done with him/her.  They are probably just happy to have gotten their word in.  Who cares what anyone else is, I certainly don't?  They are doing their thing as they see fit, and we ours.  If there is something they we want to go into the base, then we bring it up, discuss, and either majority or board rules. (Is that the boards role?)  If we don't like it, then we either create the package ourselves, pay someone else to do it, move to another distro, or just live with it.  All that have been done in the past.  If we don't move fast enough for someone, then they are free to do the above as well.

It doesn't matter to me how long a bug is open.  Isn't a bug created for either an enhancement or fix?  For either, someone needs to feel the need, or incentive, to provide it.

So, let's get back to discussing whether this feature needs to be in the base, and fully supported going forward.  If so, then agree to provide it, and work to get it there.

I personally vote for it to be in the base.

Thank you,

John

Quoting Daniel Rose <dr...@dtlm.homelinux.net>:

I'm not sure I care as much as all this, too many code names and inside jokes for me.  So what's nethserver, it looks like SME but with more lipstick.  What's the relation between the two?

Since this has arrived in my email, I'll comment as well, even if I'm diluting the discussion.

SME server spends a lot of time explaining that it isn't a Linux Distro, it's not for mythtv or gcc and so on, it's a simple, rock solid solution for the specific set of problems it's targeted at.

I've been using this since version 4 (e-smith!), and the lack of a link between DHCP and DNS has always made me a little sad.  It's the kind of feature that really belongs in a product making claims to be specifically targeted to do what it does.

My first reaction was to unsubscrib from this mailing-list, I forgot to do it after my last message about IXUS !

After reading [https://lists.contribs.org/pipermail/devinfo/2017-April/014022.html], my real reaction was :

    who really cares, nobody cares, and me too, I don't care !

    But you sent a message...finally there is someone who cares  !

I found and added the contrib in question by sheer luck yesterday when I was trying to find a way to set dhcp options for voip phones in the server manager.

If you take features like this and make them contribs then it dilutes the usefulness of SME-Server.  So long as DNS is core, and DHCP is core, basic functions for both should be core as well, IMO.

Then I decided to have a look to this bug [ttps://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2388]. This bug is opened since 2007...10 years !

In the same time, I decided to compare the decision process for another bug [https://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8939], a really "useful" feature released in really short time (I'm the anonymous guy : good, they know how to anonymize when they want!)

You should now understand what I called "the bug in the machine".

My second reaction was : What does Zeroboni try to obtain or what does he expect ?

<TrollOfTheDay>

Maybe there is a secret war between C.Brown, D-Bil, Self=This, The Fool, The Fallen King and Zeroboni.

Maybe Zeroboni is trying to escape from his ivory tower to exist [http://community.nethserver.org/t/personalised-directory-for-e-smith-layer/6435/3] !

No, I don't think so, Zeroboni is just afraid because SME is near to experience an imminent death comparing to NethServer !

(With his huge voice, CB will say : STOP TO FEED THE TROLL ! Nothing must change ! )

</TrollOfTheDay>

Let's try to be serious 1 second.

This debate should be in their secret mailing-list for the board of dictators and the word "dictator" should be understood as Linus Torvald' behaviour for the kernel. But Linus is a....coder ! How many coders in the board?

They all want to be a dictator in their own area, Zeroboni is the dictator of forums, his own forum because in the Nethesis one, this is more complex for him. But, Zeroboni is not the dictator of bugs, I suppose he would be if he could.

Finally, thanks to JPP, we all can have an idea about the Koozali' illness:  "This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody"...Does anybody care ?
