Pretty soon I felt that despite OpenWRT being good and useful I ought to try an alternative: Debian. I followed the steps in the pyneo.org guide on the subject. The first attempt failed. After a reboot I could see the boot manager printing the default text about loading the kernel and then the screen turned black.

When I did this, it was simply because Debian was presenting a login prompt on a different virtual console than the one being displayed. It was just a matter of waiting for a while and pressing ctrl-alt-f<n> (which needs quite a few fingers!) and the console would appear.

It sounds like you may have got more stuck with some later step, though.

Anyway, this is what the NanoNote is for - hacking and spending all your time getting it working. Once you have got it working, your task is finished - there is nothing else to do with it!
