I wrote: > you could make a battery-sized block [...] Oh, and I should mention what I've tried in a previous project: I took a spare battery, disconnected the internal cables, and soldered my cables (going to the outside) directly to the terminals of the little PCB inside the battery.
This gave me the exact size, but had the drawback that the solder joints were a bit fragile and the cables would come off every once in a while. Also, dismantling and modifying the battery didn't improve its general mechanical integrity.
