Here's something of a step-by-step

1. Boot off of pfSense LiveCD (don't bother getting too serious with configuring just yet) 2. At the menu prompt, type "installer" and go through the process of installing to your HD.
3. Remove CD; reboot (without NICs plugged in)
4. At configuration prompt, skip VLAN configurations
5. Perform autosense of LAN NIC ('a', then plug it in, press enter)
5.1 Not sure if it asks for DHCP enable here, but if it does, enable.
6. Perform autosense of WAN NIC ('a', then plug it in, press enter)
7. Perform autosense of OPT1 NIC ('a', then plug it in, press enter)
8. Set up DHCP on LAN if not done before

At this point, you have a functional network, except that OPT1 can't see the internet. Log into the pfSense GUI, go to firewall rules, and add one src=OPT1 dest=!LAN proto=<whatever ports/proto you want OPT1 (blue) to reach> Done deal. Anything more complex you'll have to work out on your own.

Can't imagine anything more simple!
