I'm interested in developing this same functionality. It might be possible to duplicate the functionality on my site (http://raibledesigns.com/display-edit/) with the existing library. Here is a link to download the source: http://raibledesigns.com/display-edit/display-edit.war. It noticed that a FormDecorator is wrapped around the 2nd column in the table. Note that this table does not have sortable columns, which probably makes it easier to implement (we can add that later). For now, I'm thinking a few JSTL statements in the column body should allow us to put in input fields and such.
