Someone suggested:
        try reinstalling the acrobat reader plugin, blank pages are usually
        due to a broken plugin configuration.

Unfortunately, this doesn't help as I can successfully look at PDF documents 
from with the IE browser, so the (Active-X) plugin of Internet Explorer works 
ok. E.g.: I can click on a pdf link within a web page and this launches Acrobat 
reader and shows the content of that pdf document.
