Will that possibly fix the problem I am having? I did a little more
research and it seems gcc 4.1.2 cannot compile code that is in 4.2
header files. Specifically
/usr/include/c++/4.2/i486-linux-gnu/bits/gthr-default.h.

When compiling the tree on the remote host, it builds fine.
