So it is! :-)

distcc[28074] (dcc_please_send_email_after_investigation) Warning: remote compilation of 'proxy.c' failed, retried locally and got a different result.

That pretty much sums it up, although distccmon also shows some "BLOCKED" messages too, variably.

distcc used to run and compile fine. I would have five machines compiling for me which would save a lot of time.

Then, for some reason, it has stopped.

inetd.conf used to show
distcc stream tcp nowait.6000 distcc /usr/bin/distccd --inetd -N10 --allow 192.168.0.0/26

and I've changed that to
distcc stream tcp nowait.6000 root /usr/bin/distccd --inetd -N10 --allow 192.168.0.0/26

seen as the user "distcc" seems to have been removed, but when and why is a mystery to me. A distcc installation created this user, so I don't know what would have removed it.

I realise this is not enough information. I'm going to remove all trace of distcc from two test machines and try again, I have no idea why this has gone wrong.

What's your problem?

Hi everyone, does distcc have a support forum anywhere?

My success with distcc is variable, which is a shame because
    compilation is slow without it.

    Thanks all,
    Ken.
