That's a poor argument for increasing the workload on all package
maintainers.
Backwards compatibility is the valid argument that you've made. But, for
me, that can be solved by requiring installation of a new version of
distutils (which I'm -0 on) or waiting for a new python release (which
I'm +1 on).
