I use postgres myself as well, so I can't help out there. On the face of it, it seems ok, but like you mentioned, it depends if other backends agree. However - the holdup on this issue is that Malcolm has been working on a rewrite/refactor of the query engine; #2473 is one of the (many) bugs that this rewrite was intended to address. Malcolm has gone dark the last month or so; I believe he is travelling, but I could be wrong on this, and I don't know how far along he is on the refactor. If you can get some confirmation that this approach works on other backends, I'll put it in as an interim measure; and if nothing else, the tests are most helpful - Thanks for those.
