Apache and mod_python is most common on shared/other hosting with preinstalled servers. If someone has such account the he should use it and don't try to install other servers etc. But if someone has the possibility to choose the software then the docs should show alternatives like nginx + fastcgi or cherokee + scgi which are very easy to configure and rather stable from what I can say :)
