A project like this is more likely to get traction if you're targeting a
specific feature. Instead of targeting a generic cleanup for a theoretical
feature, you're more likely to find acceptance for implementing a
*specific* feature that is database specific - like, for example, multiple
schema support.

As a concept, I suspect this one would definitely be of interest. However,
it would also be a very *big* project, and one where you can't really
deliver small parts, so it's extremely ambitious for the GSoC timeframe.
I'm not ruling it out, but it would require a very special student, and a
very willing mentor.
