Thanks for looking into this issue, though, bendavis78! If you do find a
bug at the end of the (figurative) rainbow, then please file it!
(That might be the issue left; there's so many error paths that end in
errors like this it can be hard to tell. South had this with the infamous
"string has no attribute _meta" bugs for about 5 years)
