I notice this has been reported before on ticket #15655 I've got a bit
 further on the diagnosis.

Using the Debian Squeeze default Pylibmc which is version 1.1.1 then
Django will freeze with no logging whatsoever as to the problem. However
upgrading Pylibmc to the latest version 1.3.99 and everything is fine.

It would be good to update the documentation to make it clear that a newer
 version of Pylibmc is required.
