Yea, I have Django with psycopg running beautifully on an Intel iMac.
I'm pretty sure I used DarwinPorts to install everything, including
Python; I don't remember having any big compile errors, but if I did, I
was clearly able to fix them. So there is a way!

Jeremy is correct that you need the MX Python modules installed in
order to install psycopg; if you install them and still get the error,
it just means you have to make sure they are in the place that the
compiler is looking for them.
