Great news everyone! I'm an idiot. Tucked into my template was a reference to agent.1, which should have been agent.id. THAT was causing the unindexable object error. For some reason it was flagging the "for" line as the one with the error.
So yeah, I have a working view and the problem was myself, not MR. All hail MR. Long live MR.
