I'm in the same boat. I've started work on some e-commerce in Django and have been doing some research on this. As a side-note, I'm connecting to a web service and have had trouble doing that in Python (though Mark Pilgrim's DIP was a huge help in wrapping my brain around this). I've ended up hooking to the web service via PHP. This leads to an completely different question that I'm about to post.
