Yes, it's been proposed - many times. I'm pretty sure there's a ticket for this somewhere, but the most obvious artefact I can find is a DjangoCon Europe presentation in 2011. http://2011.djangocon.eu/talks/28/ The tl;dr answer is that there are multiple ways to approach the problem.
