It sounds like a good idea to me. There are no specific plans (that I am aware of) to implement this feature, all the core developers are pretty busy with their own projects and implementing features that scratch their personal itches. However, if someone were to submit a good quality patch implementing this feature, I am sure it would be considered favourably.
