While I've not tried hosting a Django app with them, Hostgator was bought out by EIG and their quality & service tanked. EIG has a reputation for buying out excellent hosting businesses, killing the quality by putting too many customers on shared machines, raising prices, firing all the good support staff and replacing them with know-nothings, etc. Flee. EIG killed Bluehost, A Small Orange, Hostgator, Site5, and a multitude of others.
