Its been appropriate for our use case and its far more customisable than 
people realise.  Plus if you use tools like Grappelli or Django Suite you 
can create a really slick looking interface, into which you can plug 
customized views  and reporting apps that "go beyond" the basic admin 
functions.

But it really depends on your use case.  For internal users that are 
familiar with spreadsheets and, possibly, databases it can work well.  But 
for external users that really only need access to some simple views and 
highly customised forms, it will not work.
