Actually there is a reason why debian based OS's are preferred (in my opinion). Having installed Django on CentOS, I found that you have to run two concurrent versions of python. One for the OS and its tools and one to run django on. (I believe I had to run 2.3 and 2.5) It can make configuration for deployment to be a bit of a pain.
