I would say the navigation app available at http://code.google.com/p/greatlemers-django-tools/ is better than django-navbar (it supports multiple menu hierarchies, menu items can be represented by absolute urls, named urls and even querysets and fine grained access control on who can see each item), but then again I may be a bit biased about that!
