It just seems to be the "sweet spot" release at the moment. I just found that a few of the libraries I had been using, even in the last couple of months, had some kind of problem with anything over 2.5. I really wanted to start using 2.6 but for some reason 2.5 seems to be the most all-round compatible release of them all. Also it seems that most shared hosting providers use 2.5 by default.
