I hope you see this message even though it's probably too late. To fix the permission denied error change setup.cfg as follows: pg_config=/opt/local/lib/postgresql84/bin/ needs to be changed to pg_config=/opt/local/lib/postgresql84/bin/pg_config Then run sudo python setup.py build again and it'll just work fine. Hope you didn't fiddle around with sqlplus or anything.
