Without seeing the traceback, this is all just guessing--stabbing in the dark. But...
a) posting a traceback allows people to actually help not only solve the problem, but help show how to read the traceback. b) commenting out template code may have suppressed the problem, but that still doesn't mean the problem was actually in the template.
