i've been glancing over some of the comments flying around the list, and
while some i agree with, and some i don't, i thought it safer to stay in
the background. ;-) (after a certain number of flame wars, you realize
how pointless it is, and shortly thereafter you extract your CAPS lock key
with rusty pliers and use it as storage for tiny items such as extra shirt
buttons, glow-in-the-dark beads, tacks, or maybe to prop up a corner of a
rickity bookshelf)
i just have to poke out my head to agree with "the slow and the curious",
though.
i'm not some big bush supporter, but Clinton never looked like a real
person when he gave speeches, and i never got the impression of honesty in
anything he had to say. bush on the other hand (wheather you agree
with his policies or not) always looks like he doesn't have something to
hide - he looks pretty genuine. i think he looked very concerned and
upset at his address - his eyes were all red, and it MUST have been hard
to find words to say after the fiasco this morning, even if they were
written on a piece of paper in your hand.
either way, i don't think any political figures did or could've come up
with anything especially brilliant speechwise. we all knew the same
amount of information they did, thanks to all the footage and statements
being repeated over and over again on every channel and drilled into our
eyeballs and brains. some of the commentary was interesting, but it
shortly became obvious that it was much more informative to watch the tv
muted and just observe the images. one note, though: Willie Brown's
speech would get my vote for "most mumbled and boring speech by city
official". He looked more like he was annoyed that he'd had to get up
early this morning, rather than sleep in and not have to deal with making
precautions that hundreds of people didn't die in another terrorist attack
like in NY and Washington. But i'm sure someone will digress. :-)
