I believe the phrase is "taxation without representation." The colonies were taxed and goods ripped from our grasps by a government overseas that WAS making decisions for the new world without any input or consent from them. A war was declared, Independance was won...now we celebrate the signing of the declaration...the 4th. For a little "factoid" on the whole shpeel hit up 4th of July .
