If you're using debian or ubuntu you could try to regenerate the localization support files by running "locale-gen" (and checking the contents of /etc/locale.gen) and trying again. In the next release I will bundle a more recent version of phpgettext (whatever version it will be). If you're into it, I can ask you to test it before the release. I have no date yet, I'm currently busy on other projects, so it might take some time.
