After the holidays, I analyzed this once more, and I've come up with a different solution which I would prefer, and which I'm going to post very soon. Ben, I realize that Christophe already merged your patch, but please have a look at my work nonetheless. I think that the insight about the listen backlog, which is the core idea of my patch, is actually key to the problem that was observed.
