Hello I’d like to notify you of an up-coming Side Meeting that may be of interest to you on:
Thursday 9th November at 18:00 in the Palmovka 1/2 room and via IETF WebEx https://ietf.webex.com/meet/ietfsidemeeting2 The purpose of the meeting is to consider whether and how the IETF could propose a new architecture for mobile connectivity and specifically whether we in IETF believe that 6G should be an evolution from 2.5/3/4/5G as it is currently proposed. Agenda: * Presentation ‘We need to talk about… IMS/3GPP’ (David Lake - 10 minutes) * Presentation ‘6G and IETF Alternatives’ (Toerless Eckert – 10 minutes) * Presentation on A2G networking (tbc - 10 minutes) * One other open slot (5 minutes) * Open discussion on direction of 6G work in IETF (25 minutes). Some personal thoughts: * Would complete separation of voice and text services from the operators be beneficial to consumers and allow current carrier-tied voice/text on devices other than mobile phones? * Does IETF need to drive a base-level of IP interoperability between messaging/voice including to existing carrier voice/video/SMS? * Does it make sense to tie a user to one operator in one geographic domain? How does this change with Non-Terrestrial Networks in the mix? * Are there more robust/mobile-friendly IP protocols that could be used to promote true end-to-end sessions (e.g. QUIC)? * Within the IETF ‘family,’ where is it best to work on these quite wide-ranging topics in a joined-up fashion? Please do come along to the meeting where I hope we can have a lively and open discussion! With kind regards David
