Hi,
The two incompatible machine I used at my office are the following:
Linux ccslinux25 2.6.18-194.el5 #1 SMP Tue Mar 16 21:52:39 EDT 2010 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
and
Linux ccslinux27 2.6.9-67.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed Nov 7 13:56:44 EST 2007 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
RH-EE4.0, linuxopt
I try on another two machine:
Linux vlsj-nausca 2.6.18-194.el5 #1 SMP Tue Mar 16 21:52:39 EDT 2010 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Linux fedlnx01 2.6.9-42.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed Jul 12 23:32:02 EDT 2006 x86_64 x86_64
x86_64 GNU/Linux
they don't compatible either.
I have tried to analysis this issue, and I found the size of the file
"/usr/lib/locale/locale-archive" are different.
in two machine. hope this information help.
thanks.
nausca.

Hi Nausca,
I wanted to setup a VM here with 2.6.9 kernel. Can you point me to the distro
that you are using so that I can download the ISOs and install it for testing?
Thanks,
Kapil

Hi,
I am afraid I don't have the authority to provide the external guest access.
especially, the machine is at Cadence's R&D farm.
2.6.9 is a common kernel to our customer.
If the migration between 2.6.9 and the upper version is supported,
we will upgrade our MTCP version to the latest.
By the way, I will keep testing the migration between different
kernel version with the latest DMTCP version.
and tell you my experiment result.
thanks for your quickly response.
thanks.

Hi Nausca,
As a long-term goal, we would like to support more robust migration
of processes from one Linux kernel to another. Your target Linux
(Linux 2.6.9) is among the earliest kernels that DMTCP supports.
Migration between 2.6.18 and newer kernels will probably be easier.
Having said that, I'd be happy to diagnose more closely what are
the issues in going from 2.6.18 to 2.6.9. Now during the summer is a
good time for us to try these things. If it turns out to be
a smaller issue, we could probably fix it on the spot.
We used to have a local 2.6.9 kernel machine, but it's not
available right now. Is it easy for you to provide a guest account
on your own machine with a 2.6.9 kernel? If not, and you'd still like
us to look more closely at this, let us know, and we'll try for a
virtual machine.
Best,
- Gene
