This is an interesting discussion, but i work in the computer field as
network engineer working on Routers and Switches and have some expierences
with Dual (and Quad) processors. In the intel world and under windows based
operating systems most of the time the OS will not automatically balance
between both processors unless asked to. I have no idea if this has changed
but i think it hasn't. Linux did offer a better base for using multiple
processos. Now there is a company called Transmetta that is working on
Parallel Multi Processing (at the momment you use Symetric Multi
Processing). Now this new way of doing multi processors is being worked on
by the same people who invented SMP (they used to work for SUN Microsystems)
and they say that this one will be OS independent way of handling multiple
processors with out the OS being told to do so.
