Hey, I'm seriously going to finance a 12" to help relieve this ridiculous
backlog of material I have (~40 dnb tracks from the past two years,) and
hopefully this'll start the ball rolling. I'm a bit conflicted about *what*
to put on the release, as I want to make a good first impression, but also
want to make something to appeal to DJs. A no-brainer for inclusion is
"Islam Through Gibralter", which is a 172 BPM atonal thingy that probably
represents my most accurate attempt at coloring within the lines, but also
happens to be one of my strongest ever structurally speaking. "Teenage
Raver" is, well, short. The one I'm conflicted about is "Overgrown
Factory", which is a New Agey downtempo number (115 BPM) that just might be
my greatest musical thingy yet, and also one of the simplest. It would be
striking, to be sure, but would it otherwise discourage DJs from buying the
12" (Understanding that including downtempo tracks is a perfectly
acceptable thing for established acts to do, but would this be well advised
for a debut release?) I'm going to get the label owner's advice about
distributors, etc., but any advice from people who have financed 12"s in
the past would be greatly appreciated. I'll post mp3s as soon as I get this
thing out. Thanks!
