what you need is a MIDI interface in your computer. you will send midi sync 
and sequences to your modules to achieve everything you listed. all the 
software you listed will work just fine (my preference is logic). there is 
a large array of midi interfaces you can buy from $70 2x2 usb ports to $500 
8x8 ones. it all depends on how many devices you have and plan on having. 
general rule of thumb is never link more that 4 midi devices per channel. 
the latency is noticible.

midi is really pretty easy and powerful once you get your hardware and 
software working together.
