Hehe! Check out the post I sent a minute ago about Weird CPU usage in Cubase...
Basically I'm running XP with an RME Hammerfall and an SBlive (for games).. For a while everything seemed sweet but slowly but surely it's got slower and slower.. I suspect that this is a configuration issue rather than a bug (Maybe bios settings or Cubase settings).. If I could get XP to run how it should then I think it would be fantastic so I think I'll keep persisting.. The software I use is : Cubase 5.1R1 Reason 1.0.1 Recycle 2 Sound forge 5 Loads of different plugins and VSTi's... The only incompatibilities I came across were with Nero and a couple of other minor apps.. Nero was fixed with a patch.. As I say, I'd give Xp a go 1st and if you don't have any luck then go back to 2000 or ME for a while.. A lot of people diss ME but I always found it to be the best of a bad bunch.. Never used 2000 at home though.. The SBlive will work well in any of the operating systems... Any probs you get with it are likely to be at a hardware/bios level... Does this help? I ran Win2000 on my previous machine and considering the hardware I was running, it flew. Every now and then I ran into an app that did not run on 2000 but it was never anything I really needed. And all the essential stuf worked fine. I was thinking about running ME, I've never had any luck with ME. How have you found XP? What do you run on your setup? Oh, I got the SBlive. I plan to get a decent card sometime in the furture but decided to go with this one for now. From: Nick Lankester [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] hmm... I'm wondering the same thing!! I used to use Win98SE, then moved to ME and I'm now running XP... Basically, if you're machine runs well in XP then I'd stick with it... But... In certain configs it seems to slow the machine way too much.. In which case it may be better to go to an earlier OS (perhaps not 2000).. I've never used 2000 to make music though so can't help there I'm afraid! Good luck.. Ps.. You didn't say which soundcard you're going to be using..?
