Hey Chuck,

Well to those that know me, I was never big on diplomacy and caution. In my
opinion, no one who succeeds ever is. I try to always tell it like it is. If
people fear or hate on the success of others in DC, I can't help that. I
honestly believe that success on my part does not mean a loss on theirs. But
its hard to convince people of that.

Some of the people I had encountered resistance from are the same people who
did not show up to the networking night that I humbly asked people to come
to earlier. In it I talked with a lot of people about this as wellas many of
my future plans. I even said on this list that I was planning a full night
of D&B. The most support I had recieved for my plans was from people who
were'nt even affiliated with this list and people who did not currently work
in DC D&B crews. Don't get me wrong, Cap City said they would be happy to
put out my flyers, the Tangent folks are cool, many people from the list
like you & I talk as freinds, John Tab from the Buzz crew was the one who
told me that I should join this list; But the US D&B movement goes beyond
the crews that are already establised and the people on this list.

I remember that when I first wanted to do the networking night how others
said they had never heard of me. I already had produced 5 D&B Hip-Hop &
House music CDs, I had been playing D&B at Heaven & Hell for over a year and
advertizing my events for at least 5 months before that on the D&B list
here. Noone from the list had stopped into Heaven&Hell from the list back
then. Maybe this all is due to a little close mindedness, possibly my bad
marketing, or even just everyone being too busy. But its hard to get
people's attention these days. But still, I had been in operation before I
even knew about other D&B crews in DC, independently, I am used to
functioning this way.

I realize that anyone will always face a dominant force when you do this
sort of thing. My approach is not to compete, I know & respect many people
from the Buzz staff, I have met the Tangent folks and love their focus, I
know many in the Hip-Hop and House venues I used to play in and support. I
also have a lot of respect for everyon in the DC music community, that why I
always market my work and projects humbly. Knowing and having repsect for
these events and people does not however, supress my desire to produce, play
out live, and to create a community of my own, and if they blend with other
communities or even involve others, tehn thats even better.

My old ads for Heaven & Hell used to even say that I would have rather been
at Buzz on many big D&B nights. But though I have respect for them, I have
heavy aspirations for D&B in the US too. In order for D&B to grow we need to
make more open doors. My only sales tactic is to let my product [the music]
sell itself. There are tons of House music events going on in the city on
every given night, that does not mean that each of them do not have their
own crowd and success. Though House has become sort of a mainstream music
form, the house underground survives and flourishes on the money made from
the above ground work.

I would like to see Drum&Bass get the better part of this kind of success so
that there will be more choices for D&B events during the week, this kind of
selection will also boost production of D&B in the US, bringing well earned
money to US producers and the D&B community.

Many clubs have started events in House Music and some of them have failed
moved and succeeded through the years, but thats all the tricks and trades
of the business, as it will be with D&B. I have no problems with putting
together a D&B night on any night during the week because of this. When you
do your own things you cannot help having people like and dislike your
actions, you can only explain why you did what you did and feel comfortable
as long as you were humble. Thats why I tried to reach out to those already
working in DC, to make friends, not enemies. Even though I would be grateful
and welcoming for an invitation to play at other events in DC, I am not
going to wait to be invited to them. I'm gonna start my own thang.

I am usually the type to create my own informal and casual scene. I work
well with others when they are receptive to me. I always try to stay humble
unless someone criticizes my intentions or actions. I hope this gives you a
better picture of my personality and love for the
music.................Respect......>Winterman
