And here's some terminology explained:

RMS: Root Mean Square - a mathematical means of determing average signal
levels.

Threshold: Signals that exceed this will be compressed by whatever ratio
setting is set.

Ratio: How much a signal is compressed. 2:1 will result in a signal half
the volume of the incoming signal.

Attack: How fast the compressor will react once the threshold is breached.

Release: How fast the compressor will return to the normal state after the
signal has moved below the threshold.

Knee: A compressor characteristic that affects the way a compressor behaves.

Make-up: Used to readjust the volume of any compressed signal.

Subject: [dnb-prod] Re: Compression!

i have been told that online i can find 'average compression tables' i.e. a
rough estimate to the compression best added to instruments (vocals, drums,
bass, etc). does anyone know where i can find such a table/chart just for a
rough example?
