i've been using the hyperprism dx fx package for some time now and just got the same
from waves. my ears are finally getting to the point that i can distinguish between
different brands of fx and the difference between these packages and those included
with, for instance, fruity is pretty apparent. however, i don't have pro monitors or
enough experience and knowledge to really know what i'm going for in certain
instances; for example, when compressing the mix. i was wondering if anyone had any
experience with these packages and has any advice or opinions regarding the specific
effects. do you think the compressors and reverbs in them are 'pro quality'? in
certain instances i actually sometimes prefer fruity's built in fx but this just
doesn't seem right. in particular, what do you think of hyperprism's tube/tape
saturation plugin? not having had much experience with the genuine article, i can't
say how realistic an emulation it is. i kind of like to put the whole mix through it
on a low gain setting, but this just doesn't seem 'proper'. also, if anyone could
lead me to a pdf of the manuals for these packages it would be helpful as some of the
more esoteric ones are a bit non-intuitive. (the, uh, dog ate my hard copy.)
finally, can anyone recommend any other good packages of plugins? thanks to those
that read this whole message.
