right, compression.

i have a tla 5021, focusrite compounder, and 2 behringer composers.

my discoveries!!

the tla is very subtle, it never seems to be doing that much and to be
honest
i was a bit miffed when i got it. Its a compressor that would probably
excell
on taming vocals, accoustic guitar or other "live" instruments -
unfortunately
i dont do much of that!!
after saying that though - it has grown on me over the last few months - now
i
just drive my stereo mix through it [get them red peak lights a flashin']
use about
4/5 db of compression with a quick attack and slow release - this kinda gels
the
mix together and rounds off some of the harsh edges [sonically speaking].

the focusrite is fuckin baaaad!!! i cant recommend these enough - if your
after
compression for any of your bottom end bits then this is the baby. I stick
my kicks
through one side and bass sounds through the other. I tend to layer up 2/3
kicks
at a time and the compounder just sqeezes them all together and with that
"huge"
button its instant phat kicks [think matrix, ed + op] same with subs
really - wicked
compression, then just dial the subbass back in with the phatness knob!!!

the composers are superb value for money and do a great job on just about
anything.
i think they excell on drum sub-mixes - they really tighten everything up
and with a long
attack plus about 4 db of compression add real punch. apart from that i tend
to stick vocals,
synth sounds from the virus and anything else really through them - highly
recommended
for a first comp - with a great manual too!!!!

anyway - these are just what i have found out - might not work for everyone.
