What I've found in the heavier tunes is hold back on the bass in the inital
mixdown.
Then when u are mastering u can actually push the level of the track louder
to bring
it out .

This is also true if ure going to cut ure tunes to plate - there is nothing
worse than a
muddy sounding plate - through trial and error I've learnt to hold back the
bass so
when Leon @ music house cuts it he can push the levels.
