Another tip:

I have a spare ADAT port on my soundcard, so I fed it back into itself. I
have buses set up for each channel, and when I go to rendering softsynths
for mix down and mastering, I just split out the separate groups on to each
channel and re-record the output to new tracks.

Not exactly brain surgery, but I'd overlooked this option for a while, so
I'm sure someone else has too.
