"it's creating proper stereo WAV's (2
differing WAV files)"

- I'm not too sure what you mean..

Are you saying that when you open up the stereo file in SF you can see both the left
and the right channels' waves (and they are different waves)? But then when you play
it in SF it comes out in mono?

If so, then does the stereo level meter in SF show stereo playback or mono? i.e. Does
the left and the right level meter in SF show differing levels as the wave is played
or are they both exactly the same volume all the way through? (i.e. mono)..

The reason I ask is that you need to figure out where the problem is being
introduced.. Is it the output from the desk, The recording method or the playback
method..

What happens when you try to play back another (pre-recorded) stereo file through the
card? Does it come out in mono or stereo?

Hi Nick,

When I'm exporting audio interleaved, it's creating proper stereo WAV's (2
differing WAV files) which I can see in Sound Forge. If I then play it in
SF, it's still mono. I'm using the same ASIO drivers for SF as Cubase.
Should I not be?
The only way I can see to change ASIO settings is in Audio System Setup
where I have an ASIO device as ASIO SW+DS 32, which is the driver I need for
32bit recording, (which I'm doing). I've changed these to 16bit and
multimedia and changed the recording bit rate, still no success.

When you mixdown tracks in cubase (file->export->Audio tracks) you get the
option to mix down to 'Stereo Interleaved' (a single stereo file), 'mono' or
(I forget what it's called in Cubase) '2 mono tracks' (one for Left and one
for right)..

I can't remember seeing a setting in Cubase to set the format for recording
so I'm guessing it must be a setting in your soundcard's driver panel!? (are
you using the same driver in Soundforge as you are in cubase?

cheers,

Nick

Hi Kevin,

I've panned everything correctly. I'm thinking that if things weren't panned
properly, I would notice that when I was recording. 2 individual WAV's are
created, containing different information, so I know it's recording in
stereo. The same things is happening if I record to Sound Forge (stereo
input when recording, 2 individual WAV's get created, mono output on
playback.)
