each one serves a different purpose... which is the main reason why people use compressors: to bring the rms value close to the peak value, or vice versa. if you adjust levels according only to the rms value, and some transient comes in, you might clip and get unwanted distortion. personally, i use only the peak values, but i make sure my peaks aren't too different from my rms values, so i'm avoiding distortion, but i'm not playing it so safe that stuff is too low. use a compressor to control the peaks and boost the rest of the sound, but be careful also killing all dynamics and not having any peaks. showing peak AND rms sounds pretty cool, maybe you could use that too.

(i can also have it show peak+rms to compare the 2) pv --- Drum&Bass Arena Producers Discussion List http://www.breakbeat.co.uk You are currently subscribed to dnb-prod as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- Drum&Bass Arena Producers Discussion List http://www.breakbeat.co.uk You are currently subscribed to dnb-prod as: [email protected] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
