I use a 600 Mhz iBook for everything, as long as you
have a decent audio interface (I have a MOTU 828) and
use decent software (Digital Performer here) it's
pretty solid right out of the box...I used to try to
optimize extensions, etc but I never really noticed a
difference and it's a pain.  Oh, make sure you have
plenty of RAM too (640 MB here, it's cheap nowadays).
