The emu's have excellent filters... why not use them ??? The way I'd do it is have a preset containing 2 layers of that sample (or I believe the emu can do this also with a 'linked preset'? I believe my old esi32 does). Then put a hipass filter on one and a lopass on the other, play the preset continuously using a loop in your sequencer, and then adjust the hi and/or lopass filter frequency untill it sounds ok.
After that, resample the low and high part seperately and filter those or put en extra filter on both in series (my esi isn't capable of this but I guess any more recent emu sampler is).
