Subject: [dnb-prod] Re: Synths for making "Scorn" Bass. (anyone familiar
with Scorn)

Well, as it happens. I know Mick. I've been a fan for years of Scorn and
Napalm Death. I bought his FX box from him and later on a friend bought his
Nord, Pulse and Bass Station.

As for his bass, well he uses a large Tascam Desk (which he's selling as it
happens). His main weapons were a Super Bass Station (now sold to my
friend), his EMU Sampler (he is also selling this) and a Nord Lead (sold to
my friend, but he has the keyboard version also). He basically layered the
3, through the Tascam and overdriven the channels to get a nice crunchy
distortion. He never used compression on his bass. EQ and an Overdriven
desk !!!

He had a studio in an office block (Birmingham), he's moved it all back to
his house. He bought an Mac Notebook with Logic. His newer stuff which is
yet to come out will all be back based but fed back through the Tascam.

Though he's selling the Tascam .... not sure why. I'll mail him and ask.

The last album and EP were done with the synths and sampler, very little
audio.

Not sure what else I can tell you about him. His motto is, never mess
around just get it down !!!

Infact when he programs beats he pretty much just plays them and never uses
the drum editor. Guess some people just have talent.

Cheers

Scott

I just stumbled onto someone named "Scorn", it is really nice. Its like
Listening to a Konflict record at half speed. Please check him out. I am
wondering what synths you guys use for nasty low grungy basslines.
(www.brainwashed.com/brain/brainv05i38.html) a little down the page, there
are some samples of his work.

Thanx, T
