The breakdown or drop, is all about the tension and the release (but there's no rules). The best thing you can do is study how other producers do it and then work on your own method.
I don't think you work with keyboards do you? Personally I would find making music way too restrictive if I couldn't use a keyboard. Even if you can't play, they're useful for creating little melodies and b-lines.

ive got a good tune going..but how can i put a breakdown in it?

im just havin so much trouble finding a good audio sample or making a midi sample that can wind the tune down into the breakdown.

i cant just end the beat as it is..it sounds horrible if a beat loop is going nicely and just stops. Veritas
