That would've been nice, but I think the damage had already been done by then.  The fans were already rabid about alternative, and that album would probably have just been seen as a huge mistake.  Now, a decade later, rock is STILL filled with a bunch of heroin users who wouldn't know energy and passion if they squirted it directly into their veins.  Gone are the days of people having just fun and ripping shit up on stage, now everybody is wallowing in so much angst it's swallowed up all the soul of music.

But then again, that's why I listen to drum and bass,

I think I might use it just because it's something that Kurt would probably hate (curses to him for taking all of the fun and energy out of rock).

actually the depressing thing was that kurt was talking about nirvana's plans to push rock forward with a progressive- minded next album, with one of the goals being to alienate annoying grunge obsessed fans.  He was a real music fan with influences ranging from the beatles to devo.  These guys were poised to do something really special, or at least to try to. ---
